All of us at Alcoa recognize our responsibility to create a healthy and safe workplace and carry this focus into our communities – it’s this human value that sets Alcoa apart from so many companies. Alcoans set the standard for safe work practices, whether we’re operating a forging press in a rolling mill, assembling fasteners for aerospace applications, or working in a smelter pot room. I also take that responsibility very seriously. Nothing is more important to me than the well-being of our employees. That’s why I’m excited about Alcoa’s “Heart Health” campaign.
Heart disease -- including stroke -- is the single most deadly killer in the world. There’s a lot we can do about that. If you’re a smoker, join a program to stop. If you aren’t big on exercise, start slowly by walking just a few times a week. Like many of you, I have a busy life – family and work obligations – but I am committed to exercise at least 30 minutes each day no matter where I am in the world. I also make sure that Alcoa offers resources and tools, such as this heart disease and stroke risk assessment, to help you make a difference in your heart health. Take advantage of them as we prepare for World Heart Day on September 26.
